How Triple 9 began

Hi! I’m Jen, the owner and lead trainer at Triple 9 First Aid.

I have been a registered Paramedic on the frontline since 2015 and prior to this I was a student Paramedic for 2 years. I’m originally from the North East but I moved to London when I was 18 to complete my degree in Paramedic Science at St George’s University of London. During my career as a Paramedic I’ve worked on Ambulances, Fast Response Cars and in the control room triaging people over the phone.

Triple 9 was born when I decided to leave London and move to Lincoln to be with my partner, Mick. I wanted to continue my Ambulance shifts on an ad-hoc basis but I also wanted to use my skills in a different way. Throughout my career I have always noticed the lack of First Aid education for parents is greatly lacking in the UK so I started teaching informal classes for new parents and grandparents. This is where I found my love for teaching which then led me to teach a wide range of regulated courses.

Meet Mick.

Mick grew up in Australia and in his 20’s went travelling where he worked as an electrician all over the world (including Antartica and Norway!).

When he was 31 he decided he wanted a career change, he’s always been interested in medicine and wanted a career he could make a difference in. He started his Paramedic Science degree at Charles Sturt University in Australia and was then offered a job with the London Ambulance Service in 2014 so he moved country (again!).

During his years in London he worked on an Ambulance, a motorbike and for the Air Ambulance. He now works as a Critical Care Paramedic in Lincoln as part of the Air Ambulance team and is currently studying for an MSc in advanced clinical practice.

Mick helps out a lot behind the scenes at Triple 9 but he also occasionally helps out in class!
